The Schenectady Economic Development Corporation takes the leadership role in shaping city and county economic development policies. SEDC staff provides the same services to businesses as DOD staff; however, they can assist businesses throughout Schenectady County. The SEDC administers a revolving loan program similar to SLDC’s, with the exception that retail businesses are not eligible. The SEDC is responsible for administering the Schenectady County Industrial Development Agency as well as the city IDA. The county IDA bonds projects in the same manner as the city IDA, with the projects located throughout Schenectady County, including the city. The county IDA also has a small loan fund that the SEDC administers.

The SEDC is also home to the Schenectady Industrial Corporation (SIC), which owns the former American Locomotive Company (ALCO) facility on Erie Boulevard, Schenectady. Another SEDC entity, the Schenectady Community Development Corporation (SCDC), is the property management firm for SIC at the former ALCO site, now known as the Nott Street Business Center.

The Schenectady Employment Training Development Corporation (SETDC) is administered by SEDC. It has a small loan fund for businesses that train their employees in marketable skills.

Schenectady 2000, a network of volunteers carrying out improvement projects in downtown Schenectady, is also affiliated with SEDC.

George L. Robertson is president of the SEDC, and holds similar positions with its related agencies.
